Stream of Stories est une exploration des origines orientales des fables de La Fontaine, qui commence en Inde et se poursuit en Iran et au Maroc pour finir en France. La Panchatantra, recueil d'allégories animalières à destination des princes, sera traduit en Perse sous le nom de Kalilah wa Dimnah, puis en arabe pour être largement diffusé en occident par la suite. La Fontaine a reconnu s'être inspiré de la version Indienne pour écrire ses fameuses fables.
Le processus de traduction est central dans ce projet, au même titre que l'intertextualité et l'iconographie. Katia Kameli propose une analyse détaillée de ces mouvements textuels, en interrogeant des traducteurs et des historiens spécialistes des fables. Chaque version s'enrichit de nouvelles narrations, d'histoires inédites, de nouveaux personnages, et offre autant d'illustrations, de miniatures, empreintes des différentes cultures qu'elle aura traversé.
Stream of Stories (chapter one) prend la forme d'un travail de recherche qui rassemble des entretiens filmés, des textes, des images, des masques d'animaux, et permet d'amorcer le long travail d'investigation qui constituera la seconde partie de ce projet.
Stream of Stories is a journey through the oriental origins of La Fontaine's Fables, which brings us from India to Iran, Morocco, and back to France. The Panchatantra is a collection of animal allegories for the princes that will travel to Iran as Kalilah wa Dimnah, to be later translated in Arabic and being widely spread in the occidental world. La Fontaine admittedly drew inspiration from the Indian original version.
Translation is at the heart of this project, as much as intertextuality and iconography. Katia Kameli offers a detailed analysis of these textual displacements, by interviewing translators and fables' specialists. Each version gains new narrative structures, new tales, new characters, and as many illustrations and miniatures, all marked by the different cultures which produced them.
Stream of stories (chapter one) is a research in progress that gathers interviews, texts, images, animal masks, and serves as an introduction to the long investigation process that will constitute the second part of the project.
